Now, how many of you are glued to the TV everyday to watch a saas-bahu serial or anything similar to that? I know it is very compelling when everyone at home sees the mega serials where woman is always showed as a villain trying to ruin another woman's life. That has become a trend for what 20 years now? Gone are the days when we used to enjoy the Circus and Seahawks and Tu Tu Mein Mein.
I was not particularly addicted to any of these never ending serials, but put that way - I had no choice, but to sit along with family and watch them. And tamil serials are a bit more sentimental and very melodramatic!
I have enjoyed FRIENDS for a brief time, but my dad wouldn't allow me to watch them then. But I picked it up here and there, and some in BLR, and after marriage, I've seen it many times..or should I say all the times? It's telecasted, re-telecasted in one or the other channel all the time. But I'm never satisfied.
I have this wish list of watching all FRIENDS episode on one day.
When I was seeing FRIENDS, I thought it's only FRIENDS that I would see, because it is different, it's nice, it's best. To see the yesteryear's crush on Chandler and Joey! But it din't end there.
Started watching every other sitcoms - How I Met your Mother, Rules of Engagement, Big Bang Theory, Fresh Prince of Bel Air.
They are totally relaxing and stress relieving and makes you really laugh - even when you are alone! What can I say, I have to now openly confess - yes I am addicted to the TV Serials (read sitcoms - they sound better..don't they?)

DeleteSaas Bahu serials!!!!! I can not stand them!! Your post made me remember that the last tele-serial I had watched regularly was Kasauti Zindagi Ki and gave it up in 2002 when it became truly weird! And NO serial for me since then! FRIENDS, I love but my favorite is The Big Bang Theory!!
ReplyDeleteSame Pinch Shilpa...The last serial that I saw was Kasauti Zindagi Ki..I used to like that serial for Anurag Basu :) But yeah..it became an overdose and never ending..so I stopped seeing them! I've just started seeing Big Bang Theory for the last couple of weeks, and I'm so glad!
Deleteeven i like those sitcoms and it's because of friends i can somehow tolerate jennifer aniston

I used to see Glee, but occasionally. I've stopped seeing indian mega seriels!
DeleteThanks for your comment Kajal..
The last decent serial made in Tamil (IMHO) was Marma Desam. After that it's always been scheming and bringing down some family, that have consistently made the main story line. There was even one serial killer program telecasted recently in Tamil. Wonder how people are developing a taste for these things! But I guess idle mind is devil's workshop.

Oh..I loved Marma Desam..there isn't any such nice seriels in Tamil these days! All thendral, kolangal, Chellame, Thirumathi selvam - all are same crap!

They used to air very good sitcoms like Sarabhai vs Sarabhai and Khichdi some years ago...but sadly that is not the case today...
