After the long story of our railway station, I've been getting comments to post more such incidents; Not just that, as I told earlier, I have too many such entertaining embarrassments or creepy moments which is worth writing, and worth reading too :)
For a while in the past, I don’t know, I've had lots’a such moments, not necessarily that I was involved, but sometimes, I’ve seen my friends where it was just by the fraction of time, I or any of my friend would have had a great escape; Well, with no further delay, I start the tale of the long awaited Part II.... Long long ago (Not so long ago, just 5 years back), there was a girl:- she does't know the meaning of silence-suddenly naughty-nonstop-talkative-nuisance and what not...She's a fun factor, a good critic, stubborn yet doesn’t take more risks, looks bold, but actually not-so-bold types.
She's Dhaya (changed the name of my friend, to avoid embarrassment for her ;) ...how much high-minded am I ... Ohh thank you :) Well, enough of her narration and my modesty. We were in Kodai early in the morning to spend our 2 day trip during college days. After getting refreshed, we started with our sight seeing spots; half of the day went in seeing Croakers walk, Suicide point, Pine forest, etc etc.
We reached Chettiar Park or Bryant Park (some good park in Kodai...don’t remember the exact name). It has been cheerful for a person like me to see all green grass spread as a blanket. I just felt like rolling on that wet grass; Believe it or not, i really did that :) But it all started by me (i still regret a little bit for my uncontrollable mischief). The park with full of green grass filled my heart with pleasure, and overwhelmingly I rolled down since it was slant area.
Nearly all of my friends followed me enjoying that rolling ride. After all our rolls and head full of small grass, we stood and exchanged happiness. Enjoyment didn’t end there. For a second time, it was me who started it. I told to one of my friend - Me: Di, it will be great, if we run in this wet grass with our bare foot. It'll be so much of fun!! (said all this to influence the rest of the crowd there *sigh) Dhaya,Greeshma and; Aruna: Is it!! Then we should really try that. (Both with a close up smile) Others: hey com'on girls, let's remove our shoes and keep it here, and make an attempt. All of us removed our shoes without knowing its repercussion.
I started first (as usual), and started to run…run…run...out of joy...i was really at cloud # 9... Dhaya followed me. Graha (another friend - dont want to mention the name) immediately followed Dhaya. When Graha started to run, she lost her balance and to get hold of support she tried to grip Dhaya in the force. Dhaya was running on the small slope, and with the force of push she acknowledged, Dhaya rolled / collide with / twisted 2-3 times seriously, and fell on the ground. I was stunned when I turned back to see Dhaya lying there.
I and all other friends came running towards Dhaya to help her stand up. Since the grass was wet, she had some miniscule scratches here and there, and I thought of some internal pains. But to our fate, Dhaya wasn't able to get up. She was indeed just lying on the grass. We tried to cheer her up, but she sat on the ground, and gazed (it was a wacky look) at all of us.
Aruna: Hey Dhaya…are you ok??? (waving her hands towards her)
Dhaya: My head is paining; and my leg is also paining (Keeping her face like a kid)
Me and Kumu: Don’t worry dear, take some rest today at room, and you’ll get better tomorrow…
Dhaya (Looking at Aruna and me): How did I come to Kodai?? My parents did not allow me to go. Whose dress am I wearing??? This is not my dress... (Dhaya looked very confused….)
(Background being - her parents did not allow her for the trip, and with great struggle Aruna, Kumu and I convinced her parents to send Dhaya along with us. And she was wearing my Jean and top).
We thought she's just kidding us, and we asked her showing numbers in hands, trying to make fun of her;
Greeshma: hey Dhaya, tell how much this is?? (She showed her fingers with some numbers)
Me - Tell who’s handling Corp.accounting subject for us?
Kumu - Who is Bhoom bhoom bhooma??
Graha and; Others - Tell who we are?? Tell our names?? (Pointing out each of us…)
Dhaya looked at us (with the same look of a lunatic) and did not say anything. We again got back serious to her, and repeated the same Qs. She answered. Aruna and I were looking at each other in a great relief that Dhaya is all well. No memory loss!!! Again Dhaya asked us the same Question "How did I come to Kodai?? My parents did not allow me to go. Whose dress am I wearing??? This is not my dress..." We tried to convince her to get into the Bus, but she was just sitting there, not wanting to move. Dhaya - Mudhalla sollunga; Naan eppadi Kodai vandhen? En veetla permission tharala, idhu en dress illa, naan eppadi vandhen..??? (In tamil)
Aruna and I got pissed off with her behavior as she kept on asking the same Q. We requested all our other girls to move and get into the bus, while Aruna, Kumu, Greeshma and I stayed back with Dhaya. She sat and started to cry looking at us. We 4 consoled her, and slowly took her near the bus. With that, she remained silent until sometime; she had to; b'coz we had our lectuers accompanying us at the bus. If they come to know about this, we don’t know what disciplinary action they will take on us, and what consequences we had to face. The bus left the park and stopped near one of the falls in Kodai, our next place of visit.
All the others went to enjoy the falls, except we 5 (the famous 5!!) – Dhaya, Aruna,Kumu,Greeshma and I. Immediately after our lecturers got out of the bus, Dhaya started all over it again and kept on asking the same question. While all of us felt irrirated with Dhaya’s behaviour, unexpectedly,Aruna slapped Dhaya with a great force. All of us were stunned by Aruna's action including Dhaya. Water just poured from Dhaya's eyes when Aruna slapped her. I wasn’t too sure why Aruna slapped her, and infact I was shouting at her for her unhelpful reaction. But, its only after that Dhaya stopped her rattles and calmed down for some time.
The whole day was dull, with not-so-enjoy moods in our minds, infact we were protecting Dhaya from our lecturers, by saying that Dhaya is not feeling well. Still Dhaya continued to say the same thing until that night, when we got some sleeping pills for her, and made her sleep at 7.00 PM itself. We missed Dhaya during that night’s campfire and other galattas. We were enjoying, but not with full heart. We were preoccupied thinking about Dhaya, and what will be her condition the next day. Having told our lecturers that Dhaya is not feeling well, we were able to manage her absence.
After all this and couple more discussions about the event and campfire, we all slept wishing that next day Dhaya should be alright. Luckily, the next day was a good day, and Dhaya was all fresh compared to the previous day. She got dressed up for our photo sessions, and she was all smiling. Aruna and I looked at each other and thought that everything is perfect, and nothing more to worry, and we all left the hotel for Lake view. While enjoying the beauty of the lake, we decided to take a cycle ride when Dhaya and I were choosing the cycle, Dhaya asked me “Anu, you tell me, what happened yesterday; how did I come to Kodai? Whose dress was I wearing yesterday???” and the rambling continues!!!
And we continue to hear those same questions even today!!!! Back to college, we were no more sympathizing at Dhaya. We were teasing her so much the whole of year, and even after our college days, even today!!! I am sure this moment will be the most-unforgettable one to all of my friends. Having done a bit of background check on the reasons underlying Dhaya's behaviour that day and her short term memory loss (as I would like to call it - because she still does not remember what happened that day, pre and post-accident), its just a psychological stress and fear.
Early in Dhaya's life, she'd fallen from the steps and got injured in her head. While her parents took her to the hospital , she overheard the doctor saying that the injury in her head was a bit critical, and any such injuries in head in the future might lead to severe symptoms. These words were strong enough to stay in her mind for years, which eventually made her react that way when she banged her head on the ground. Our gang was entirely worried on that day after that incident, praying to god that she should be well. But today, we just consider it as one of our most entertaining event whenever we meet. I am sure Dhaya is gonna blast me after reading this!!!
