Beauty of Rajasthan....

The Pink City

It grips you with admiration when you enter the old Jaipur city, every buildings, walls & houses being painted in pink color!! Jaipur is truely a place of palaces, and you feel like a prince or princess when you enter each of those beautifully built palaces. Hawa Mahal, Jantar Mantar, City Palace, Amber Palace, Nahargarh Fort, Jaigarh Fort, Jal Mahal are the dramatic testimonials of the gone era and a silent reminder of their lingering romances.

Every palace is built with great sophistication and imagination keeping traditional elements like Fluted pillars, lotus, floral patterns, but it does reflect works of islamic style of architecture as well. Fresco painting and inlaid mirror work has also been used extensively to create a whimsical world of color and richness in the midst of bleak surroundings. The city reflects a clever combination of Rajputs and Mughal styles of art and architecture.

Hawa Mahal, called as Palace of Winds looks like honeycomb - was extraordinarily built with red and pink sandstones, and has 950 small windows which circulates the air inside the palace. This palace was built with the intention to allow royal ladies to observe the everyday life and processions of the city. Jantar Mantar, an observatory where you find astronomical & geometric instruments for measuring time(sundial), predicting eclipses, tracking stars in their orbits, celestial coordinates etc. These instruments were unique in terms of precision, size and architectural perfection.

Your heart gets filled with astonishment and unmeasurable joy when you enter City Palace Museum. The great crafsmanship of the palace interiors decorated with pillars, arches, mehrabs and grills with gorgeous inlay works, painted halls. Mubarak Mahal, the courtyard with two gateways - hall of private audience and hall of public audience. Chandra Mahal, as the name implies looks magnificient with lot of paintings, mirror work & floral decorations on the walls, had enormous collection of weapons, and carpets. Amber Palace is yet another example of royal apartment, noteworthy is "Seesh Mahal" or the hall of mirrors, where 1000s of mirror pieces adorn the wall and the ceiling, and the entire hall will just sparkle during the day light.

Ruins of Ranthambore - A formidable fort!!!
One of the most beautiful, and formidable places I've ever visited; It just stays in my mind fresh even today when I think about this impressive historic fort, situated near Sawai Madhopur, Rajasthan. This is one of the ancient fort built by Chauhans in 944 AD situated in the midst of Ranthambore National Park, and this fort commands strategic location, reason being it is well protected, completely inaccessible, concealed in mountain regions. The entrance of the fort has two fortified gates with huge iron chains. And you see the ruins of Hammir Court, a mosque, temple, a bathing pond. Ranthambore National Park boasts itself for being one of the finest Tiger reserves in the country, covering nearly 400 sq.km that is set between Aravalli & Vindhya ranges.

Visit to Rajasthan has been one of the best trips I've ever had in my lifetime, and the best place in India I've ever seen. The camels walking in the roads, rajput style dressed women with pots carried on their head,Pink color buildings and forts everywhere, rajasthani ka khana, makes you feel great about the place.....but I missed one place which I always dreamt of....Jaisalmar.. the place of desert.

Best season to visit Rajasthan: October - December.
